Director of Analysis & Insights

Primary Function

The Director of Analysis & Insights serves as the primary resource for Excellerate Foundation to connect community-wide data into useable information and to unlock valuable insights that move the community forward.  Responsible for designing, conducting, interpreting, and making recommendations based on research supporting community and Excellerate needs.  Responsible for developing &/or evaluating hypotheses in support of Excellerate Programs.  Responsible for developing and maintaining metrics that both guide investment directions and deliver understandings as to their impact.  This person must be passionate about turning data into information and information into solutions that better serve the mental, physical, and basic needs of NWA.


Essential Functions (key elements of job)

  • Works in conjunction with area community statistician teams (providers, grantees, employers, & foundations) to design pilots to test for various outcomes.
  • Creates and tests hypotheses on behalf of executive team
  • Builds predictive tools to guide program implementation
  • Evaluates programs and analyzes complex data sets from grantees and other sources.
  • Works with grantees and service providers in creating metrics to understand impact, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Provides monthly KPI reports with connected insights, interpretations and recommendations
  • Develops and implements data collection systems
  • Identifies trends or patterns in data sets
  • Interprets data and analyze results in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maintains confidential reports
  • Manages potential research assistants
  • Performs both quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Provides data and reports at Committee meetings.
  • Recognizes inconsistencies and initiates resolution of data problems.


Position Requirements

Education:  A Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in a quantitative science field such as Economics, Statistics, Applied Sociology, Mathematics, alternatively Engineering, Finance.  MBA a plus.


Core Work Experience:  Three to five years in an Analyst role including a proven track record of deriving insights that have led to change.  Demonstrated knowledge of data models, database design development, and data mining; conversant in various statistical design approaches, methods and software packages; knowledge of reporting and statistical packages; ability to collect, organize, analyze, and distribute large amounts of information with interpretation skills as to what it means and actions that should be considered; attention to details and accuracy.


Beneficial experiences:  Knowledge and awareness of diverse culture in NWA; application of educational and work experience in the social services sector.  Working knowledge of financial statements, and financial analysis approaches.  Training in inferential statistics or predictive analytics (t-tests, ANOVA, linear/logistic regression, mixed linear modeling is a big plus.


Software & system familiarity

Core software tools:  Microsoft office suite, including a high mastery of Excel and macro capabilities.

Beneficial tools:  SPSS, SAS, R, or Stata for inferential statistics and predictive analytics, Crystal Ball, Tableau, QuickBooks, data visualization tools.


Working Relationships

Reports to:  Chief Financial Officer

Coordinates with:  Multiple levels within Excellerate including CEO, Program Directors, and Community Liaisons.  Externally with various levels of multiple service provides in the Health and Social Services sector.
